Care Instructions: Keeping Your Blooms Happy and Healthy!

Hey there, flower lovers! We at Austin Flower Delivery want to make sure your gorgeous blooms stay as fresh and vibrant as the day they arrived. Here are some tips to keep your flowers looking their best:

1. Keep 'em cool: Your flowers are like vampires - they hate direct sunlight and heat sources. Keep them away from windows, TVs, and any other hot spots.
2. Pets are cute, but...: While our flowers and plants are generally pet-friendly, keep them out of reach of your furry friends. Their bacteria-laden mouths can cause early expiration dates for your blooms and some blooms if digested by your pet can upset their belly.
3. Change that water: Fresh water is key! Change it every day for the first 2-4 days, then as needed after that. Bacteria grows in the water naturally around cut stems as they are decaying slowly. If you keep the water changed it cuts down on the bacteria and early expiration of your flowers.
4. Clean house: Every 3-4 days, give your vase a thorough cleaning with mild dish soap. Make sure your blooms chill in a temporary home with water white cleaning the vase or be sure to recut the stems before putting them back in their vase with fresh water.
5. Pluck the old: As soon as you see dead petals or leaves, remove them. They're bacteria magnets!
6. Droopy head? No problem!: If your roses start drooping, change the water and move them to a cooler spot. Sometimes an air bubble makes its way to the head of a rose and causes it to drop over, simply use a sewing pin or pulled apart paperclip to poke a hole straight through the top swollen part of the stem directly below the petals (flower head) and give it a few hours to release the air and your rose will stand back up straight! Also be sure to Pluck any petals that look ready to fall.
7. Orchids are divas: Mist your orchid plant with a spray bottle and keep the soil semi-moist. Over-watering can cause root rot and kill your orchid quicker than any other outside factor. Orchids love conversation; proven fact so if you're not comfortable talking to your orchid, place it somewhere it can listen in on conversations around you. Orchids also love indirect light so find them a bright spot to hang out without being directly in the path of the sun. With proper care, they'll stick around indefinitely!
8. Penny for your thoughts (and flowers): Drop a penny in the vase to help keep bacteria at bay. The copper creates an unfriendly environment for those pesky microbes. Also, if your tulips are curving down, they will stand tall when you place a few pennies in the vase.
